BLA Minor
Emphasis in Professional Communication – 18 credits
Mission Statement: The study of professional communication provides students with basic knowledge about gathering and presenting information through various communication channels. These courses examine the use of language in a variety of contexts and provide opportunities for students to learn theory and practice skills relevant to their area of focus.
Program Goals: The minor in professional communication is designed to provide students with a broad overview of the different channels of communication with which they will be expected to have some familiarity and skill for most professional work environments. Furthermore, students’ reading, research, writing, speaking, computer literacy, professional behavior, and critical thinking skills will be enhanced.
Student Outcomes: All courses in the minor are designed to be writing- and speaking-intensive. As a result, students’ skills in these areas will continually be assessed by program faculty.
Full time faculty available to teach the courses are: Dr. Susan Koester, Dr. Jason Ohler, Dr. Jean Richey and Professors Judy Andree, and Jo Devine-Acres; other full-time staff available as adjuncts are Kurt McAllister, Elizabeth Schelle and Jo Dahl as well as part-time adjunct Dave Gelotte.
