BLA Minor in Speech
Communication – 18 credits
Mission Statement: The study of speech communication provides students with an understanding of how individuals create and interpret verbal and nonverbal messages in a variety of contexts. The minor is a broad introduction to human communication, including communication theory and practical experience in all courses, which focuses on interpersonal, small group, and public communication.
Program Goals: The minor in speech communication is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to the discipline of speech communication as well as enhance their reading, speaking, research, writing, computer literacy, professional behavior and critical thinking skills.
Student Outcomes: All courses in the minor are designed to be writing-, reading-, and speaking-intensive; consequently, students regularly will be assessed in these areas by program faculty.
Full time faculty available to teach the courses are Dr. Susan Koester and Dr. Jean Richey; other adjuncts available are Gail Haynes, Elizabeth Schelle, and Jo Dahl.
